Exercising 10 Minutes a week vs. 10 Hours a Week: Results Profound & Typical

I believe the old saying “a picture is worth a thousand words” rings quite true in this instance. In the above left picture, I was…

  • exercising 10 or more hours per week (for months on end at that point)
  • engaging in such things as”group exercise”, lots of running, aerobics, “cardio”
  • eating better than the average bear
  • about 167 pounds
  • had a body fat % of about 13 percent
  • Age 19

In the above right picture…

  • I am 20 years old
  • I havent participated in group exercise, “cardio”, jogging, “power lifting”,  in over 5 months
  • my training consists of about a once per week 10 minute session of proper exercise as seen in this post.
  • I weigh about 177 pounds, and my body fat is about 10%  as measured via skin fold at the University of Central Florida’s Rec and Wellness Center

This is …

Beating the Angst to Train: The Shift to Proper Exercise

One of the (if not most) common questions I’ve recieved regarding high intensity training- aka proper exercise- is how to beat the angst to over train that most “fitness fanatics” are so accustomed to- myself included up until January of 2009.

For anyone new to the blog, I spent years training high volume in the gym, and then spent the most recent 2 years doing 10+ hours of “cardio” per week on top of that. In January of 2009 I abruptly kicked this habit and began exercising once per week for 10-15 minutes, mostly on resistance machines. My results quickly sky rockted from the drastic reduction in volume, frequency, and increase in intensity.

So, how exactly did I make the shift from working out every day, to about once per week, and what can you apply from my successful experience? Let’s find out…

1. I was still in the gym reguarily due to my job teaching group exercise at the Univeristy of Central Florida. I focused on doing as little as possible during my classes, all the while…

The Best Dessert in All the Land

bestdesertever

This may not be as impressive as my usual lunch, but I assure you that this is the “best dessert in all the land” =).

What we see here is not only obnoxiously (can I even use that word in this context?) delicious, but incredibly nutritious- and yes I know that sounds corny but I mean it anyway.

So what is it, and what’s in it?

Well, I don’t really have a name for it aside from the title of this post, but it’s essentially a concoction of nutritionally packed foods that taste awesome at the same time.

From left to right we have

  • About a third of a dark (77%) organic chocolate bar broken up into smaller pieces
  • A handful of whole natural almonds (as close to raw as you can commonly buy)
  • Dark chocolate covered cocoa nibs
  • raw chopped pecans
  • Organic Vanilla Coconut Milk Icecream
  • Raw Locally Grown Orange Blossom Honey

What’s the end result nutritionally speaking?

A dessert that’s packed with healthy monounsaturated and saturated fat- none of which is heavily…

My Experience With High Intensity Training (5 Months in)

For those that don’t know about my exercise background, I worked out every day for nearly 2 years. I did this under the false belief that all exercise is beneficial and healthy.

In January of 2009 a friend recommended a new book called “Body by Science“.

Reluctantly, I began reading the book. Less than 2 days later I finished it- before even buying it (I read it IN the Barnes and Noble). The book was incredible, and seemed to fill in the “cracks” left in my mind from conventional exercise lore (and my progressively worse results from doing more and more of it).

Body by Science is essentially an introduction to proper exercise- also known as high intensity training, which you can read about on my old blog here.

In that post I also detail my experience and results up to that point with the training- which was limited to once per week 15 minute or less sessions.

You might think I gained body fat from working out only 15 minutes a week (I ate the…

Latest News On The 21 Convention

Hey guys

So this is the first official “convention” post, which also means this is the start of the official convention blog. Whenever cool stuff happens with The 21 Convention, you can bet I’ll post about it here under the convention category.

The latest…

  • I met with Papa of Real Social Dynamics last Monday in downtown Orlando (will likely make a full blog on that later). We discussed quite a few things, including one of his instructors, Nathan. It’s official, Nahtan of Real Social Dynamics will be speaking at this year’s convention. Per Papa’s request, Nathan will not be recorded or filmed in any way- which means see him live or not at all.
  • I’m currently finalizing filming details of the 2009 event. So far it looks like it will end up being filmed AND distributed in 720p high definition. Yeah, sick!
  • Other recent speaker additions include Dj Fuju (Mehow’s former Chief Instructor), Right Hand Man from 2008, and Erika Awakening.
  • See the full speaking line up here.
  • I was interviewed on the Revolution 31 Radio Show about…

TheDreamLounge.net is Here- R.I.P TDL@Blogspot

I’ve blogged for about 2 years now @ http://thedreamlounge.blogspot.com. Over the course of those 2 years, I feel that I’ve learned a lot.

Not only in terms of writing, networking and the like- but damn near everything.

Anyway, the NEW blog is here, and here to stay. It’s on a self hosted wordpress theme- which means I can edit the site very easily and posts will come out much nicer.

The theme itself is also really cool to begin with, and allows me to keep the site organized and running well- unlike the blogspot site which was cumbersome and hard to manage at times.

On this new blog I’m going to continue blogging until my thumbs bleed ;) . However, part of the move to my own url was to take the blog to new heights. I really want to expand and reach a larger audience- both on here and with The 21 Convention.

In light of this, my posts will no longer be completely OUTRAGEOUS at times…

Will I censor myself into politically correct oblivion though?

Helllllllllll NO.

But yeah, the…
