Meeting Mystery and Matador of Vh1′s The Pickup Artist

In the Spring of 2008 I had the opportunity to meet Mystery and Matador of Venusian Arts and Vh1′s The Pickup Artist fame in downtown Orlando.

They were scheduled to be in town for a few days while on one of their workshops. While in town they decided to offer a free talk to local people who were interested- of course, this was something I could not pass up.

Not only was I interested in what they had to say (Mystery has relentlessley been hailed as the world’s best “pick up artist”), but obviously I was interested in having them speak at the annual convention I host right here in Orlando.

I had talked to Matador previously on the phone about it, but meeting in person is always a lot more productive from my experience.

So, I went to the Marriot of downtown Orlando for their talk.

Not surprisingly, it was pretty good. Matador in particular is a really charismatic guy and a great public speaker.

If you’re wondering about the picture (taken by a guy who unofficially worked for them), they technically weren’t supposed to be taken. Long story….but yeah, I’m not going to violate people’s privacy hosting the pictures.

After the talk they took Q and A. I talked to Mystery for a quick second but he was practically swarmed with people, so I headed outside to talk to Matador who was on a balcony. There were a few people outside talking to him, but he recognized me from the convention when I introduced myself.

Overall, a cool down to earth guy. Humble, and chill as can be. We talked mostly about the convention (this was a few months before the 2008 convention). Funny, he asked where it was going to be, and I literally pointed at the hotel- which was only a few hundred yards away.

“Oh”

Ha. But yeah a good dude. He was interested in attending but was caught up in filming for The Pickup Artist Season 2 during that time and was unable to take a few days off (damn you Vh1 and your millions of viewers).

Anyway, a friend (and 2007 convention speaker) was there and wanted to grab a picture of us. I’m usually not very interested in these kinds of pictures, but I figured hell why not? What’s the worst that could happen.

The picture actually turned out to be very useful. I spoke with Matador again in the fall of 2008, and we worked out details for him speaking at the 2009 convention- yes, he will be there, and has about a  2 hour time slot.

The picture has been helpful in landing radio interviews (both local and internet), and quite possibly an interview with Fox4 of South West Florida in a few weeks time (an even bigger credit is due to Peter Murphy however if that comes through).
