Why it’s Important Tucker Max’s Movie Succeeds

Comments { 3 }

I went to Gainsville and met Tucker for his movie premiere not long ago. I’ve linked it enough so if you haven’t read it yet, I suggest you find the post.

The movie was great, and from what little I saw of Tucker, he’s a good dude. The theater wasn’t the best though, so a bunch of friends and I opted to go see it on release night here in Orlando (one of the initial 85 release cities in the US).

Every laugh made it worth the ticket price, it’s a riot.

I’m done raving about the movie. I’ve done it enough, and that’s not what this post is about.

This post is more about change, in everything.

Perhaps the most fundamental change though, is in the power of the individual. The change is difficult to describe…maybe ironic?

People are bitching left and right about how our new president is a socialist, health care reform, individual rights being stripped away…and so on.

Are these legitimate issues? Maybe, maybe not- but now isn’t the time I’m going to discuss them.

What I do want to discuss is the irony.

RIGHT NOW, the individual has more power than ever, regardless of what you’ve been told, and what the masses are complaining about.

Not by a little, but by a long shot.

And it’s come out of nowhere thanks to the internet.

Look at Tucker… this guy wrote a book about being a dick, it took off, and created a fan base of thousands upon thousands.

Thanks to the internet, and that fan base, Tucker has now released a full length movie- and he put his balls on the line to do so.

He went against the grain and challenged what everyone told him.

Well actually, he did a lot more than that. Tucker’s rise to fame attracted a lot of haters. Check these 2 short clips out.

Video 1

Video 2 (these radio guys made total asses of themselves)

Not only did he say “f*** conventional wisdom”, this guy had (has) to deal with a LOT of haters.

When I started The 21 Convention, damn, you bet your ass I had haters- dozens of them.

They gave every reason in the book that I wasn’t qualified to host the event- apparently there was no unifying reason, they were just able to come up with hundreds (interesting).

When that failed and I was the only one left standing, they tried creating a rival convention- it flopped (this is what happens when you react to people rather than create something of value).

Trying to imagine that, times 1,000, is tough. But then again I was 18 at the time, so that may have been a factor as well- one that may serve me in the future as the convention continues to skyrocket.

As for Tucker, I’m not concerned with how fat or skinny his wallet is- I’m concerned with his movie succeeding.

If it does, it’s going to piss off a lot of people, in exactly the right way. It’s going to poke holes in a lot of belief systems, and cause people to question what they’ve done for many, many years.

More importantly, it’s going to accelerate change. The same change that has given the individual the power to do great things, big or small, locally, or globally.

One thing I’ve thought a lot about over the past few weeks is how irrelevant where I live is, in regards to running the convention. I’ve realized, it literally, doesn’t matter- at all.

As long as I have relatively fast internet access, and basic human needs, I’m good to go. Orlando, Canada, Sweden, Croatia, Australia, the Florida Keys…it’s so irrelevant it’s hardly even funny.

Why stay tied down? Why not share something great with the world? I can’t come up with a good reason- probably because their isn’t one.

As an individual at this point in time, the limitations are fast falling. Tucker is a great example, and inspiring to me personally.

While I can’t claim anywhere near the level of success he has, I hope to inspire in a similar way over the next year and beyond.

How?

I’m going to do what mystifies most people but is relatively “simple” (not easy) thanks to modern technology- I’m going to host The 21 Convention twice next summer- Stockholm, Sweden in June and Orlando,FL in July.

Both are going to be filmed in high def, and released free to the world with no BS attached. They are going to be the best events yet, and blow people away like never before.

And that’s just the beginning. Things are really going to get interesting come August 2010 when I put my personal location to the test.

I wonder where I’ll be a year from now?

    hi Dream,

I love, love, love this post. Most of all, I love your style. I love how you posted on Rev31 and calmly deflected each and every hateful comment with your calm, confident, unphased responses.

I love what you are doing with the Convention.

And I love the recognition of how powerful each of us really is. This is definitely what my work is about. I do tapping with people, and not only do they change, everyone around them changes too. In fact, by total synchronicity, I just wrote about this: http://awakeningfromthedream.blogspot.com/2009/09/change-yourself-and-everyone-else-will.html.

It is not an exaggeration to say that every day that goes by, I feel more grateful that I participated in your Convention this year. I met so many phenomenal people. I have new clients and new people to team up with for workshops. But most of all, I can FEEL that the 21 Convention is about to become so much more than a seminar. It feels like a movement.

It’s going to get REALLY big. And we are going to have a blast.

You are unstoppable. It’s an honor to know you.

    Love,
    Erika

Erika, those are some great words of acknowledgment for Dream. If I know him like I know I do, they’ll be used as fuel for the future.

    - also, thanks again for incorporating me in your speech. happy to help out, and great meeting you.

    see you soon.

    @Erika

Thank you for the kind words…they do mean a lot to me. It was an honor to have you speak this year, look forward to having you out next year.

    I feel the same way.

    =)
