Need Your Help

Posted on 27. Dec, 2009 by Dream in Convention

The 21 Convention 2010 (USA and Euro events) speaking lineup has been released.

However, I’m sort of stumped on who to invite for “nutrition” at the US event in Orlando. Ideally I want Kurt Harris there from PaleoNu. However, I spoke with him via e-mail and (at the moment) it seems unlikely that he will be there.

My next choice is Mark Sisson, author of The Primal Blueprint. I believe he would give a great speech, but it would be more educational than controversial.

Not necessarily a bad thing, but I want The 21 Convention to create waves in the field of nutrition, not just educate. I think in doing so, more people will be drawn to the online videos, and more people (that are looking for quality information), will find it.

So, any suggestions? There are a lot of choices obviously, but I’d like to hear from you guys before I make a call on this one.

Another thing I’m open to suggestions on are European speakers for exercise/nutrition (or any field outside of dating/relationships). Thus far, it looks like The 21 Convention in Sweden will be primarily focused on success with women. Not entirely of course (Zebra and I will likely be the exceptions, to an extent) but, I’m simply short on ideas for speakers outside of that field, in that part of the world.

Any ideas are welcome.

Finally, a more radical idea ;) .

I’d like someone to speak about “global warming”. TED has presented only one side of this theory (Al Gore non-sense), and to be blunt, it’s a bit aggravating. “Aggravating” because it’s seriously mis-leading, and probably downright harmful, for people as well as the environment.

Anyone have a suggestion on who to invite for this topic? It’s a touchy, and heavily ingrained subject – probably teetering somewhere between religion and politics for most people – so suggest wisely =).

ps- shout out to Jonas for crowning me Santa Claus for the holidays. I literally laughed out loud when I saw it.

    look him up on youtube

    Good luck getting him to speak, it would be awesome if he did show up

    If controversy is what your looking for, then Dr. James Carlson is your man.

    His website is http://www.drjamescarlson.com. You can connect to his blog from there.

    He also hosts a live web cast called “Ultimate Wellness” that is very well done.

    Check it out http://livinlavidalowcarb.com/blog/?p=6344

  3. Hammer says:

    Get the Freakonomics guys to talk about global warming. Their new book Superfreakonomics has a chapter devoted to it which has caused a lot of waves.

  4. Rob says:

    Stephan from Whole Health Source is a beast.

  5. Dream says:

    Will contact Stephan tomorrow (just contacted Keith from TheorytoPractice off a friends recommendation).

    The Freakonomics authors sound like a good choice too.

    Ron Paul? God that would be awesome! =), although I imagine a speech from Ron would encompass a hell of a lot more than global warming.

    Two of the people who have been challenging global warming for the longest time are from Australia

    These men have been challenging convention for a long time and both could give a good talk.

  7. PUA Hub says:

    Ron Paul would bring the convention to a whole ‘nutha level.

    off topic, Are you a Libertarian by chance?

  8. Dream says:

    Haven’t gotten around to contacting Stephan yet, but I did contact Keith Noriss from Theory to Practice.

    @Fxyz

    Thanks for the suggestions, will take them into consideration.

    @Hub

    It would be nothing short of awesome to have Ron Paul at the event! I really have no idea what the chances of that are this year, but I will send an invite to see what happens. He is all about the internet/online video…so who knows!

    As for being a libertarian…I don’t think I could classify my political views that way just yet, but I do lean in that direction if that answers your question (as if my comments about Ron Paul weren’t revealing enough as it is).

  9. Crash says:

    Ron Paul is not exactly libertarian nor exactly Republican which is the party he is associated with.

    Ronpaul.com, http://www.house.gov/paul/ has info to make a good judgement.

    Ron Paul Revolution

    you should see if you can get Sean Stephenson

    • Dream says:

      @Crash

      Ya I read The Revolution just a few weeks ago…excellent book, although I’m liking The Real Lincoln even better.

      Who’s Sean Stephenson? Sounds familiar.

  10. Ted says:

    If you invite Mark, yeah, he’ll educate. It really depends on the recipient if the information creates waves or controversy. It’s not controversial to you because you know it.

    You could set the theme though to help direct it. For example, a talk about how a real global shift to primal diet might affect the population base and global warming, etc.

    Good luck.

  11. Halffull says:

    I’d love to see some alternative views on nutrition and exercise to those you hold, seems silly to get only one perspective when there are so many others out there, all with a boatload of evidence.

    • Dream says:

      @Halffull

      My only problem with this is teetering on the path of trying to please everyone (and as a result, pleasing no one). As far as I am concerned, exercise and nutrition are more “science” based than dating, relationships, and so on. Because of this, you will likely never see anyone who has views contradicting my own, unlike the field of success with women, which I believe to be less rigid when searching for “truth” (and will gladly bring speakers in who I do not agree with).

      Regarding exercise and nutrition specifically, you will see people who do not agree with me 100%, that have their own views and think for themselves, yes, but I am not interested in finding people to puppet my ideas, only a search for the truth.

      This year we have (thus far)

      Doug Mcguff (barring unforseen circumstances)
      Drew Baye
      Bill De Simone

      Speaking on exercise. I have disagreements with all of them, but collectively, their work is the basis of what I have personally decided on, for me, regarding exercise.

      I’m doubting I’ll bring in anyone else on exercise, as those 3 are quite literally, some of the top “authorities” on exercise, on the planet (from my research).

      I would like to find one or two people to speak on nutrition specifically though, rather than asking Doug to touch on it. No luck thus far however.

  12. Ted says:

    Well, I think Mark would be really interesting if taken away from his own marketing game and into yours.

    We should all think more about what an impact our style of eating would have if EVERYBODY decided to take it up.

    I predict a massive population decrease. I mean, you know, it’s not going to happen any time soon but if you ever wanted to see a competition involving survival of the fittest…

    One thing I’ll give Mark, he does a lot to promote proper diet.

    Anyhow, good luck on finding a speaker.

    • Dream says:

      Thanks man. And I agree, a lot of good things would come if people ate better. Not sure about the population decrease… but “good” things none the less (such as hundreds of billions less spent on preventable diseases).

  13. I’ve been reading your blog for a good portion of today.

    Your committment to rationalism, exercise safety (man do I have experience with doing it the wrong way), and actual humility about your speaking abilities was touching.

    I re-wrote my entire and before now theoretical soon-to-be implemented healthfulness “blueprint” from scratch after reading what you wrote about learning from — but not blindly mimicking — our ancestors.

    Huge freakin’ distinction.

    Then I literally gave a, “Whoop!” out loud and said to myself, “He’s a thinker,” after reading:

    “I’d like someone to speak about “global warming”. TED has presented only one side of this theory (Al Gore non-sense)…”

    I agree. In any case right or wrong you have the self-confidence and courage to think for yourself, Mr. Johnson, and I respect that.
