Excuse the webcam picture, I dropped my $200 digital camera in a stream last week while camping in the wilderness, and I don’t feel like dropping another hundred plus dollars on a camera at the moment.
What you see above is “The Diet DVD” from Doug Mcguff, as it’s been called.
I purchased it for my mother, and it arrived just before her birthday. It was $45 plus shipping and handling, so it wasn’t cheap, but I was confident in Doug’s ability to present complex information in a manner that was easy to absorb and understand by the lay person.
I finally sat down and watched the DVD with her yesterday, and, WOW (pun intended).
Doug’s online videos are top notch, but this was a step above, and well worth the price tag.
If Mark Sisson authored the best print book to date on paleolithic nutrition, and Kurt Harris run’s the most informative and in depth blog on the subject, Doug Mcguff just took the gold medal in releasing a single comprehensive DVD on the subject.
I’m serious. This DVD is awesome, “know it all” about paleo style eating, or a total newbie to the idea, this very simple DVD rocks from start to finish.
Personally it was an outstanding refresh for my own knowldge in the field. For my mother, who was being introduced to the idea for the first time? Fascinating.
I think the fact that Doug is an MD and close to her in age helps a ton, but all superficial factors aside, Dr. Mcguff’s ability to relay and streamline complex information, in such a heated area as nutrition (and exercise, but not in this DVD), is incredible.
I know of no other DVD or video product that does what Doug did in this presentation. Beginning to end, it kicks ass, and I can not recommend it highly enough for your own personal learning curve, or as a gift to someone who is in need of such information – or has thus far not been interested or open minded to eating intelligently and rationally.
A+, and 5 stars from this random blogger.

Lookin forward to Doug’s presentation this summer.
Cant wait to grab my copy of this DVD. Nice one for pointing it out, Dream.
Must admit though that price is freaking high.
No problem.
And yes, the price is high =(, but the content is king, and very comprehensive. I think other “fitness gurus” could have easily drawn out what Doug did in one disc to 3 or 4 discs, without any added benefit. Considering this, I wonder how good of a deal deal is provided with the lone dvd, as a multiple disc set could EASILY be hyped and marketed into a price double or triple what Doug is charging (assuming he even decided the price).
Random thoughts… thanks for commenting.
Antbony,
Thanks for the kind words. This was a video-recorded lecture that I gave to my clients. Because it was a presentation to a live audience, it had to be condensed and understandable. I could have drawn it out into a 3-5 DVD set for more money, but that isn’t my style.
WRT price…I pulled that one out of the thin air. To some it seems expensive, especially with no PowerPoint (which I hate) and not filmed in HD. My price was based on the knowledge, content and presentation. It reminds me of the story of the guy who wanted a squeak in his floor fixed. Multiple handymen had tried to no avail. Finally, a gentleman who was highly recommended came by. He stepped on the squeaking area, took out a single nail and knocked it in with 3 efficient blows. The squeak was gone and he handed the homeowner a bill for $100.00.
The homeowner was outraged…he exclaimed “$100.00 for 3 swings of a hammer”. The handyman then took the bill back and scribbled on it. He returned the bill itemized. It read…”Hammering: $5.00, knowing where to hammer $95.00″.
Thanks so much for your review. Look forward to seeing you this Summer

Hey Doug
I take the same action regarding DVD products. I recently condensed all convention footage onto DVD discs, and had I really wanted to rake in money, I could have produced over 50 (FIFTY) discs from all 3 years of The 21 Convention.
I felt it was unnecessary though, and I ended up combining a lot of discs, getting the final number down to 43. Others would not have, and do not currently, do the same Doug, and I applaud you on that.
I think this benefits everyone as well, especially the consumer regarding the content. Short is powerful. Long and drawn out? Eh… walking a tight rope unless you are an absolutely incredible speaker, in my opinion (not that you aren’t, but I’m talking Tony Robbins style captivation haha).
I actually noticed this while filming Drew Baye recently for a documentary. The shorter he kept what he had to say… the better it came out and the more power was behind it. Less room to trip over your own feet I suppose. And as I’m sure you know, Drew is especially talkative =)
I think the price is spot on by the way, it just “appears” high due to it being one disc. It was certainly worth every penny, for both myself and my mother as her birthday gift. In fact it may be worth a hell of a lot more than 45 dollars should she follow the dietary advice, shed fat, and avoid (costly) future health problems.
Thanks again Doug
