I normally just Tweet/Facebook videos like this, but dang, this is an excellent and meaty video. In it, as far as I can tell (I’m not even finished watching it yet) Dmitry more or less gives an oral presentation of the ideas in his book Reinventing Collapse: The Soviet Example and American Prospects.
He’s not the most exciting speaker, but his sense of humor makes this somewhat depressing topic far more than ‘digestible’. Sit down and take time to watch this – you don’t want to miss it.

If this taught me anything it’s how depressing our future is. If I took this message very seriously I would drop out of college, learn how to hunt, and start a garden, most importantly I’d buy a machine gun and try to find as many FBs as fast as possible. Maybe it’d be easiest to skip the middle man and move to Europe. Truly eye-opening and shocking material Dream. I don’t even really know how to respond to something like this, it’s mind-boggling
I haven’t had time to watch yet, but I’m actually doing a paper on the changing economic times and how it relates to education and tuition, and I will for sure use this video and book for my research.
That said, Dream, you are a successful start-up entrepreneur and seem to be knowledgeable in economics, and I was wondering if I could get a quote or your thoughts on the changing economy. I’ll post my paper outline below. Also, if you know of any other good resources or people to look into, that would be incredible helpful.
Paper Outline/Research Questions:
- It is obvious that economic changes have been abundant in recent years. Is the economy truly becoming more global? If so, what is America’s role? An entrepreneurial society as Carl J. Schramm suggests?
- How does the changing economy effect the standard educational and collegiate systems? Is there a better way financially, logistically, etc. speaking?
- The ROI for college tuition is absurdly low, therefore college tuition does not scale. (In terms of starting salary vs. loan debt) Is it worth it, or can current economical state be leveraged to help pay for college?
I gotta run, hit me up an email or comment. I’d appreciate it.
Dude, this guy read his ENTIRE speech. Lame! On a more positive note I liked the old guy who did the intro. His boots rocked ( =
you’ve got to be kidding me man… his boots BLEW!
Read Will’s comment. Or more specifically, if you view this video as ‘lame’ you are entirely missing the point =/ (it wasn’t meant to be entertaining or exciting or even presented very well for that matter).
Dude definitely needs work on presentation, but if you concentrate on the substance, it’s fascinating and funny. Maybe just listen to it and not watch it. I’m not sure about it all, but you can see how things are in place for the possibility. Interesting, though scary, stuff.
