Dogma is a term misapplied by alot of people who don't really understand its meaning. 'Dogma' is a belief or opinion held by any religion, ideology or organisation that is held with complete and absolute conviction, not to be disputed, doubted or diverged from. In essence 'dogma' is more often than not a belief based upon faith.

Now you could say that the beliefs held by many members of this blog including myself and Anthony are 'dogmatic' but you'd likely be incorrect in the use of the term. I can tell you for certain that I hold no belief with unwavering conviction and am always aware that there may be the possibility for new knowledge to arise that may cause me to reassess that which I previously thought to be true and alter my beliefs accordingly, therefore my beliefs are tentative and cannot be considered as dogma. To say that the beliefs I hold are dogmatic would imply that they are based purely on faith and whim and not subject to positive, verifiable evidence. That regardless of the state of knowledge we continue to hold these beliefs. That is not the case. My beliefs can only be based purely upon positive and verifiable evidence because without it I have absolutely no reason to believe anything even if I wanted to. I reject faith outright and as a corollary reject dogma.

I am an Infidel (literally "one without faith")

The BEST approach is to NOT be dogmatic, and practice a variety of exercises including Medicine/Stability balls, Man-made 'machines', Kettlebells, Barbells, and Weight plates.

Kettlebells have recieved loadsa popularity over the last few years, but its all the same as any other fitness industry fad. Kettlebells have been around for donkeys years, despite their apparent 'new' feel portrayed by magazines advertising. Being a free weight they are no different really than a dumbell. All they are is a weight with a handle. In fact a dumbell is a far greater improvement in terms of comfortability as during some exercises with kettlebells the weighted part rests awkwardly on the wrist. This is made even worse when trying to do cleans or any other explosive lifts (not that you should be doing them any way unless your an olympic lifter) as it impacts the wrist.

All in all kettlebells are in todays world a gimic. They would have been useful when first designed and implemented (useful in that other heavy objects i.e. rocks didnt have handles), but today they fall far behind the exercise equipment available.

Heres a pdf which talks about the history of free weight exercise equipment.

Never used kettle bells. Off of the top of my head, I can imagine they have some (safe) uses. Heel raises being one, sitting against a wall with one in each hand being another ... pretty limited though, unless you're comfortable throwing them around (I'm not).

Will be doing a lot of travelling this year. Will do a post on what I end up doing for exercise throughout.

Correct, it's just the way the pictures worked out.

As for a pic of the abs, I would have to take one first. Maybe in a few weeks when I am back in Orlando. Get ready for a picture of a rain forest! =)

bob,

I don't think he edited out his midsection, it was never in the picture in the first place. The first pic layout is portrait, the second is landscape . . . the difference in dimensions makes it appear "cut off".

If you ask nicely, I bet Anthony would post a pic of his abs . . .
