The Short Term Cure is the Long Range Poison

The Short Term Cure is the Long Range Poison

Commenter Gold Investor brings up a good point for clarification. To quote two comments from GI,

Dr. Peikoff offers a counterpoint:

“Given the choice between a rotten, enfeebled, despairing killer, and a rotten, ever stronger, and ambitious killer, it is immoral to vote for the latter, and equally immoral to refrain from voting at all because “both are bad.””

~~~
So you’re saying it’s an insult to vote for the lesser evil even if you do it to protect your life and give yourself the better chance of survival and happiness?
In short, I think this is a logical trap, brought about by not thinking long range, and not looking at the source of the problem in the first place — the problem itself being a choice between two evils, differing only in degree. Or in another sense, my question to all is, why are we so often at a point where all options in the political arena are horrific?
This is the question no one seems to be asking. We take it…
Is Voting a Massive Waste of Time and an Insult to Your Brothers?
Is Voting a Massive Waste of Time and an Insult to Your Brothers?
Richard Nikoley recently posted “Is Collectivism Relative?” (well, the url is titled as such anyway). In the post, Richard asserts (among other concepts) one of the same ideas he presented at The 21 Convention 2011, that voting is not only a massive waste of time, but insulting to anyone and everyone else on the receiving end of the action.
Well, surprise, to a very large extent, I agree with Richard. In fact I will make a confession, I am 23 years old, and have never voted — not even once.
Considering how much I write about politics on this blog, this should come as a surprise to most, but not to all. A few of you I think, will immediately understand why this is so.
For those of you that don’t, the answer to this paradox lies in the respects in which I agree with Richard, that voting is not only a waste of time, however little, but is also insulting to those on the receiving end.
I would go…
Abundant Dietary Salt — No Effect on Blood Pressure
I failed to mentioned the other week when I donated blood that my blood pressure measured 110/59, which is on the very low side of “average” for my age (23).  While I could not care less what is considered “average”, “low”, and “high”, because of my dietary, exercise, and health choices, I find this measurement interesting because my the food I eat is laced with salt.
  • Freshly iodized sea salt.
  • Himalayan salt.
  • Hawaiian salt.
  • Australian salt.
You name it, I’m throwing it on my food, in my coffee, even in my fat/protein shakes. So much so that I frequently get the concerned “that’s not healthy” look, and occasionally get a “wtf is wrong with this guy” look (the same goes for pepper).
Yet, the numbers speak for themselves.
Meanwhile, on the standard american diet back in high school, I vividly remember my blood pressure being 166/9x. So high that I was not allowed to participate in football until it went down (and was verified so by a medical doctor).
Ironically, as much salt as I…
Get the Word “Allowed” out of Your Head
While I have no intention or interest in picking on anyone on this blog, unless such troll/goblin deserves it, I have seen this comment far to often on TDL and have heard it far too often face to face.
The idea that in the federal union of the united American States — an exact way of saying the United States, which unfortunately has a homogenized, monolithic, anti-reality attribute to it in our day and age — we are “allowed” to do anything, particularly and especially own and use firearms. In fact, sadly, the word “allowed” is by far and large the single most common used term when foreigners, and from my experience, Americans alike, speak about gun ownership.
This of course directly contradicts reality in “America”, and is simultaneously a confession of how subtly enslaved 99% of the world is by government.
Thin of a line as this may be in 2011, the reality is, I am not “allowed” to own a gun in the American States, my…
Know it Before it’s Gone
‎”Man is an individual, and absent the chains of men, man is free. To chain man — in say, the chains of government — is then not only anti-liberty, anti-life, anti-man, and anti-reason … but anti-reality.”
I went to the beach with my girlfriend the other day. The beach is pretty secluded, not to mention gorgeous. In addition to being a less popular beach (distance, tolls, etc), we went late in the day, so while it wasn’t completely empty, it was pretty quiet to say the least.
And not only was it quiet/sparsely populated, but it the weather was ideal. The water was warm, super calm, no wind, warm air, but not super hot or humid. Just right.
I think in large part that because of these factors happening in tandem, I was able to think deeply about a number of things. Namely, my former best friend, and the greatest hero I’ve ever known on this earth, Curtis Noll.
I was…
Don’t be Fooled: Federal Concealed Carry is a Potential Attack on Liberty
21 Convention speaker Bravo posted a link yesterday to the following article.
House Weighs Bill to Make Gun Permits Valid Across State Lines
In short, it’s a federal power grab masked as a do-good for “gun rights”. Of course, guns don’t have rights, only individuals do. Gun ownership and usage are just one expression of your absolute right to life and liberty — including the subsequent and self-evident right to defend such life and liberty, as well as the necessary right to own and dispose of your own property.
As the article states
Supporters say the measure would not create a federal licensing system, but would require that all states recognize lawfully issued permits — regardless of where they were issued. Gun rights advocacy groups say it’s the only way to make sure that lawful gun owners’ Second Amendment rights are guaranteed when they travel away from their home states.
Bolding done by me, and, of course supporters are going to say that. In fact they were probably…
Profits are Made on the Buy, not the Sell
During one of the speeches at The 21 Convention 2011 of Orlando Florida, one of the speakers said something pretty extraordinary. He said that — in regards to all areas of life, not just wealth, but even things like intimate relationships, friendships, etc — profits are made on the buy, not the sell.
I thought this was pretty profound, so I started thinking about it on an almost daily basis. In a distant sense, implementing it. The literal, physical results have been pretty profound, and strongly encouraging for continued use. I mean this across the board to.
So what’s the deal? Is it some magical thought process?
Of course not, it’s a reflection of reality, one very supporting of a strong self-esteem, in the sense that it aids you in accurately valuing your-self. Specifically your time, your money, your effort, your mental energy, your emotional energy, the products of your work, etc. It really gets you focused on where you are spending yourself. And it begs the question on every “transaction”: is this a wise choice for my value?
Is this…
Ron Paul Mentioned at The 21 Convention
An excerpt from “The History and Future of Money” by Gary Korolev.
I will add to what Gary said and state that its not so much the power to tax that is the problem, its associating “tax” with violent force. Taxes could very easily be made voluntary or fee based, with a loss of services for not paying. A business for example that did not wish to charge its customers a State sales tax, could lose an appropriate degree of ability to enforce their contracts with customers and other businesses in State court.
Make as many agreements as you want, if you don’t want to pay sales tax, they are only enforceable to X degree without paying huge fees. Charge and pay sales tax, and they are enforceable with no or minimal fees involved.
While this would have to be ironed out in great detail, it is an enormous step in the right direction.
Why?
Because no government in the American States was granted the authority to put a gun to your head and…
