The Relationship Talk That Changed My Life

The Relationship Talk That Changed My Life

As I type this I’m at my girlfriend’s house. Simple as that fact may be, I’m almost speechless, because it is the ultimate testimony to the efficacy of Sock’s speech (link) on interpersonal relationships, and it is a profoundly personal one.

I briefly showed this speech to my girlfriend, and I don’t even think she believes me — that if it were not for this speech, I would not be dating her right now. It really was that pivotal.

But was it the primary cause?

No, the prime mover for manifesting the relationship, qua my own life, was me. This does not undermine the fact however, that the single biggest key to unlocking what I had already built in my own character, was this speech, it’s speaker, and his ideas.

His psychology pertaining to committed, long term, intimate relationships.

~~~
I know this may come as a shock to many of you, and I would like to verify by reviewing his work before stating this more concretely, but this speech…
T21C Fan Drops 31 Lbs, Improves Health, Changes Life
T21C Fan Drops 31 Lbs, Improves Health, Changes Life
24 years.
That’s how long it took me to get my shit together, health-wise. I’m still working on the other parts of my life but I feel like I’ve finally got my health under control.
I’ve always been a chubby kid, even in high school when I was a star lacrosse player, I was never really a great athlete. But I was active enough that I could get by with eating complete garbage every day.
I look at my photos from my junior and senior year in high school and you can tell I gained about 10-15lbs. Once I hit college and stopped playing sports I really took off. I went from being 5’8″ and 190lbs, steadily climbing until I just recently hit my highest weight ever of 270.
As with most gradual changes, I never really noticed it. I knew I was getting bigger and buying bigger clothes, but hell, there was nothing I could do.
I got serious about my health two years ago and started…
The Line of Man
The Line of Man
It occurred to me today that I’ve run The 21 Convention not only since the age of 17 and since the Summer of 2006 — not 2007 as is commonly believed — but also, against the tide of every relevant obstruction conceivable. I have maintained it’s foundation and nurtured its momentum during this time span, in the face of every single personal battle, struggle, obstacle, and loss.
I have overcome time and again my own self-doubts, insecurities, fears, and failures.
I have triumphed over the fears, doubts, and criticisms of others — both those who care for me, are indifferent towards me, and those who posses negative emotions for me, and/or carry opposing world views.
I accepted the death of my best friend, and the greatest man I have ever known during this time.
I conquered my fears about leaving college and straying, almost violently, from the conventional path in life.
I maintained The 21 Convention in the face of every other professional endeavor that presented itself to…
All 21 Convention 2011 Videos Now on Sale for Download
DVDs are still on the way, but in the meantime, all 2011 videos from The 21 Convention are now on sale for download. The video and audio downloads are perfect for people who (A) do not want to wait for the videos to come out on Youtube, and (B) people who want to play them on mobile devices, or simply offline and when without internet.
The videos are obviously advertisement free as well, unlike on Youtube.
The prices are $9.99 per HD video or $6.99 for the Mp3 version.
You are also supporting the best convention in the world, the convention you love, when you purchase these videos.
I suggest buying speeches from your favorite speakers. They are all really good. Especially Socrates. His speech has changed my life.
Those links also have 5-10 minutes previews of each video.
Three Dichotomies that Will Change Your Life
Three Dichotomies that Will Change Your Life
This was my opening speech at The 21 Convention 2011 of Orlando Florida. It was the last speech I will ever give in Orlando at The 21 Convention (unless and until I decide to return the event there). It is also the last speech I will ever given at the dawn of The 21 Convention. Going forward I will be only making an appearance, and then letting the show get on a roll of it’s own.
Will I continue to speak? Certainly. However, not only am I not the best speaker, but I want to tackle more specific subjects that would not necessarily make sense coming from me, right at the open of an event.
Some subjects that are especially interesting to me are romantic love, declarationism, the ideal man, morality, self-esteem, and the philosophical/meta-physical foundations of proper exercise, nutrition, and healthy living.
For all the chatter done by the paleo community, it’s far too rare I see anyone mention “nature to be commanded is…
Feed the Beast
I came across a subtitle in a book today for a section on the nature of reason and rationality. The subtitle was “Reason: The NonContradictory Integration of Experience”.
I found the subtitle pretty profound, and it made me think of The 21 Convention. In particular, the concept of integration, as well as experience.
The 21 Convention being both the integration of knowledge into a construct of my own design, and a real life, in person experience held at various times throughout the year.
A convention for men of the mind. A convention for the young Howard Roarks, Steven Mallorys, Hank Reardens, John Galts, and perhaps even, Dagny Taggarts of the world.
In any case, integrating is exactly the process occurring at the events. Every speech given by every speaker contributes to The 21 Convention in and of itself, specifically because the speeches are recorded, and subsequently, add to the sum of knowledge produced by me and the speakers, through the events.
While maybe strange to some to think of in this way, I find…
The Iceberg Effect
The Iceberg Effect
MikeG posted an honest question the other day on T21C Aftermath (link).
A quote,
I was curious aboutt what you find yoursefl doing during the months before the t21c. Im sure it takes a bunch of tight planning/ re-planning/ organizing/ networking etc. but do you
Keywords there being “I’m sure it takes a bunch, but“. Oh yes, it takes a bunch. In fact each event takes a mountain of work — and there is no understanding this until you take on tasks of similar magnitude and have similar experiences.
To relate it to school, which I am assuming many readers are in or intimately familiar with, each event — of which there are now three this year — is like a ~4 day, 5,000 question exam, that you have about 9-12 months to plan for.
Only, you are simultaneously running the entire class, and at the same time, have NO IDEA what is going to be on the exam — NONE. Now, at the same time, you have…
T21C Aftermath
T21C Aftermath
You can read the official post event write up here, complete with pics and video from the event.
The behind the scenes version is what this post is meant to be.
~~~

The event was a full 5 days long, because we spent Wednesday July 20th filming premium DVD products for select speakers. As fate would have it the ensuing 4 day event would be the most difficult to date. Those days were in fact were the most difficult four days of my life. I was not aware I could dig that deep, suffer that much pain, and come out alive.

It was the perfect storm of obstacles and problems. It was as if almost the entire world decided to shrug at the same time — and I refused.

What was most interesting was that the entire time, I had two deep senses, that I held with absolute certainty, despite my surface level doubts.

1. I would not fail.

2. This is only a fraction of what…

2012 London Tickets on Sale + Phone Discounts

2012 London Tickets on Sale + Phone Discounts

Tickets went on sale to The 21 Convention 2012 of London England a short while ago. I put them on sale this early because it helps support the company and it provides an opportunity for those on a tight budget to attend the event — people who simply can’t afford the full ticket price, or anything close to it.

The early bird prices in this case are pretty good, but even better are the bonuses attached to all of the tickets. In particular, of the three brand new ticket types, all get you free DVDs (shipped today) of your choosing from any previous event, and 2012 London tickets get you free access to all other 2012 events — including North America (August 2012), and Australia later that year.

Neither of these bonuses are going to stick around forever, and the tickets are supposed to go offline tonight. I will leave them up for any TDLers who did not get the memo that they were available though until July 2nd…

And Another One Goes off the Deep End…

This time it’s Vince Kelvin.

I had never met Vince before he spoke at The 21 Convention 2010 of Stockholm Sweden. I took a risk, and made out OK on it, because I ended up liking the enthusiasm Vince brought to the table on stage, and out meeting women. This guy really doesn’t stop, and I think there is value in that.

Vince was very adamant about speaking in Orlando that year. I did not have room on the roster. Even if I did, I had reservations about putting him side by side with guys like Mark Sisson, Doug McGuff, and Bill DeSimone. It would be difficult to connect the content at the very least, because of the way Vince expresses himself.

For 2011 Vince once again wanted to speak at the event, both in London and Orlando. He said he would help bring attendees to both events, so I said the hell with it, I’ll make it work, and put him on both speaking lists.

In London…
