2012 in Review

(Click to play)

I’ve considered writing a piece about 2012 for some time now. I’ve been waiting for adequate head room over the year itself, unlike most of these posts that are written five seconds after the year ends …

I link the 21 Convention cinematic trailer above for one reason above all else : that was my dream for this past year, perfectly visualized, and I achieved it. In fact, I fucking nailed it.

Of course, this type of achievement is usually mentioned via third party — it’s “bad manners” to talk about it yourself. But I don’t care. I’ll commit the ultimate “sin”.

I’ll state that what I set out to achieve, and then proceeded to achieve in 2012, was a clear expression of the closest thing to a “miracle” possible by man [miracle used in…

The Self

This is a great short-video featuring Sock.

(It’s no wonder Greg and Sock get along so well; take a look at this video of Greg from T21C.)

You can see the entire catalog of Sock documentary videos here. It’s closing in on completion, so be patient =).

In related news, the main 21 Convention channel just had a sweet redesign. You can check it out here.

When you know something, everything, and nothing all at the same time …

With enough consistency to notice, I’ve gotten the comment “you should stick to X topic because you know nothing about Y topic” for many, many years now.

If it can even be called a comment, when and because it is so often a personal confession.

A confession that a person “likes” what I have to say in one area, and dislikes what I have to say on another area of human life.

This became most apparent when I started incorporating exercise, nutrition, and health into The 21 Convention. The pickup fans were upset.

Who gives a shit, that stuff is stupid anyway — especially if you listen to it! 10 minutes a week!? You’ll never get your cardio in … what a joke! Eat saturated fat and cholesterol!? But I can’t fit a plunger in my heart!

Naturally, as the health speakers kept coming, I eventually had the e-mails and comments coming in that I now needed to get rid of those shady dating coaches, because everything they said was stupid.

Now crossover into exercise equipment, psychology, entrepreneurship, politics, legal philosophy,…

Notes on the New Design

This blog had a pretty significant overhaul a few months back, and I never quite did justice to discussing the change.

Brief as it may be, I’ll take the time now to discuss the design changes.

~

This blog had been too simple, for too long. While I did not feel that the old design did harm to the blog, and the content of it, I did feel that it did not do justice.

Not to me as an author, not to the blog itself, nor the specific content.

It was far short of it’s potential, to say the least.

When someone approached me for the redesign, I started to think a little more seriously than I had before about a full blown overhaul of the site design. What came to mind first and foremost was what James Steele II once said about this blog :

The best blog with a focus on man as an end in himself.

This ended up being the guiding principle upon which the…

A (Short) Return from the Break + Post Surgery Pics

Until now, I haven’t released a post on TDL in nearly a month. That’s out of the norm in itself.

On top of that, there have been some major changes here on TDL, both in design, and in the framework of the blog itself. These changes, both obvious and subtle, and all of which I am extremely happy with … speak for themselves.

Blog aside, where the hell have I been?

Two words : my knee.

An MRI scan of my left knee earlier this year turned up some nasty, yet unsurprising results. Multiple osteophytes, a kneecap that was “way” off track, bone spurs underneath my kneecap, a bone spur on my femur … oh joy.

While I’m usually last in line to participate in conventional medicine, this was a clear case where surgery seemed wise. I scheduled surgery as soon as I could afford it (I refuse to participate in the fascist healthcare system). While this was my first surgery, I wasn’t very concerned, aside from the remote chance that I…
