Kurt Harris at The 21 Convention?

I invited Dr. Kurt Harris to T21C last year. From memory, he seemed mildly interested, but not nearly enough to spend the time to fly down to Orlando, regardless of covered travel and lodging expenses.

From what I understand, he is in the process of retiring. Hopefully come Summer, he will have the time to speak. ‘Hopefully’ because he is by far one of my top picks when it comes to nutrition.

And hopefully, considering what I imagine to be a very large influx of e-mail, this video is enough to push his interest over the tipping point if and when he comes across it.

Proper Exercise & Nutrition: Now on Youtube

All (past) convention footage will be on Youtube in full within the next few days. I know a lot of TDL readers liked this speech. Enjoy first, share second.

ps — I still find it fascinating that Doug, Bill, and Mark spoke the following year — the authors of the books I recommended so highly in this video. The quote “I make my own luck” comes to mind.

2 Spots Left for Next Round of Dream Vitality

I’m not a salesman, so interpret this as an announcement — not a sales pitch, which I am not capable of.

Dream Vitality is a 12 week coaching program I started back in August. Essentially, over the course of 12 weeks, you and I work to overhaul your exercise, dietary, and other health habits.

You have 12 weeks to pick my brain — mostly via e-mail, and a bit of phone as well.

I have 12 weeks to cram your head with knowledge that’s taken me over 2 years to find, interpret, and understand.

During this time I create a custom workout routine for you — based on available equipment and any specific needs — and provide private demonstration videos when applicable.

I also critique up to 6 video workouts of yours.

Minus videos of you chowing down, the same applies for a nutrition plan. (You’re welcome to send me videos of you eating, but I will not be…

Thoughts on My Grandmother’s Death

My maternal grandmother died at 91 years of age last night. While this is considered a “long” life by conventional standards, I believe she could have lived well over 100 years.

This is aside the point though, because her physiological headroom, as men like Arthur De Vany and Doug McGuff MD discuss from time to time, slowly and agonizingly declined over the last third of her life.

This is not the way humans beings are meant to live. Nor are we meant to die a slow, painful death, with a slowly decomposing quality of life.

Our quality of life should be ever rising, or at the very least (and end), a flat line, that suddenly drops off due to physical injury of some kind.

This was not the case for my grandmother who died barely conscious, with multiple organs failing, a great deal of pain, and more cancer than most would think possible in one person – not to mention diabetes, muscular atrophy, and obesity.

With that said,…

Four Hour Body Mini Review

This is titled a “mini review” since it is (A) not a full review, and (B) my thoughts on the book as the content applies to me and me only.

First things first, I have enjoyed the book very much. Tim is the ultimate geek for the human body, and this monster of a book proves it.

Second, I found the following chapters and ideas most useful. The rest I either didn’t care about, or simply disagreed with [disclaimer for those who haven't bought it yet: Tim knew many of his readers would be in the same boat before publishing the book, so far as I am aware].

  • Ice Age: Mastering Temperature to Manipulate Weight
  • Six-Minute Abs: Two Exercises That Actually Work
    • Note: I do not perform direct work for my abs, nor will I start doing any. I like this chapter because Drew is in it and I think Drew is awesome. I also have a monopoly on Drew Baye Youtube…

The Champions of Exercise & Nutrition: Doug McGuff MD, Mark Sisson

In this 20 minute excerpt Doug discusses…

  • Eating frequency
  • Tweaking intensity
  • Mechanical sticking points
  • Applying BBS to sport conditioning
  • The folklore of sport coaches (ending is hilarious)
  • Initiating BBS training for a new sport (such as MMA)
  • Muscular vs metabolic de-compensation
  • Intensity of play vs proper training
  • Life longevity of our ancestors

and much more.

The full speech is ~90 minutes in length. See Mark Sisson’s ~20 minute preview here, exclusive to The21Convention.com, and Drew Baye’s 2010 preview here.

Dream Vitality

As most of you know, I started living the nomad life just a few months ago. Below is a message I received just before heading to Los Angeles.

Hey Anthony-

Are you just going to be in LA or are you going other places. I’m in Fresno, which is midway between LA and San Fran. If you end up here. You’re welcome to crash out at my pad for a day or two. I’m next to a starbucks and a gym and I’d love to do a HIT with you. (wow that sounds gay haha).

Anyhow, it’s the least I could do because I’ve lost 80 lbs with your advice on diet and HIT.

-Gary K.

I share this because I was awestruck when I read it: someone lost 80 pounds of body fat simply by reading and applying the content of my blog?

Holy ****.

While this is an inspirational example of success in applying the right principles to your physical and dietary habits … it is also an extreme example…

Compromise, Quackery, and Accepted Norms – No Thanks

Below is my response to a recent comment written by a Professor at Harvard on TDL. His comment was lengthy, and I knew a response of my own would be long as well, so I took the liberty to expand on a few ideas I wanted to share regardless and turn this into a full post.

What selections of his comment I took are quoted via Wordpress.

I’d like to continue by addressing what I feel is a theme in many of your articles, if only sparsely woven through some. It is the notion that the medical and federal authorities that exist are non-trustworthy.

At this point in time, 99% of medical professionals and and federal officials have no legitimate authority that any sane person would recognize – none because authority can only be found in truth, not the other way around. To think that a sizable amount of either party have any regard for the search of truth left, is sadly, a cruel joke.

Without wasting your time in explaining…

High Protein? Think Again

High protein diet

Fat is the Regulating Nutrient for Body Composition, Not Protein” quickly jumped to be the most commented on post in the history of this blog with 117 comments and counting.

Not surprisingly, that discussion was pretty heated, and highly interesting to follow.

Am I here to continue it today? Directly, no, indirectly, yes.

Check the following posts out that relate to what I discussed in that article and the ensuing comments.

Feel free to discuss here of course.

16 Pounds of Muscle in 16 Months

From Florida to Sweden, doing the mind numbingly simple exercises you see above – about once a week (or less) – I built ~16 pounds of muscle in ~16 months time.

I did it with less dietary carbohydrate per week than most people eat in a single day, and more saturated fat per day, than some eat in an entire month.

In other words, I stimulated and allowed for the growth of ~16 pounds of new muscle, in direct opposition to the prevailing conventional wisdom.

99% of “personal trainers”, “body builders”, “nutritionists”, and “dieticians” would tell you what I have done is impossible, and quickly dismiss it as a lie, or superior genetics (labeling me an anomaly instead of the norm).

Indeed, quite the opposite is true.

  • What I have accomplished is very possible for the average joe.
  • I would sooner stab myself than lie.
  • I grew up a fat kid. While some parts of my…
