Round 3: Drew Baye Renounces SPARTA

As fate would have it, Drew Baye has had to make decisions similar to my own as of late (regarding Erika Awakening and psycho/lunatic Vince Kelvin).

~~~
And as of today, it appears Kezia Noble is next on my list thanks to her zealot like following of fan boys who can’t see past the boobs. Despite the dentata, I can’t envision her actually being worth a stand alone blog post though, so the Wikipedia link shall have to suffice.
Anyway, check out Drew Baye’s renouncement of the SPARTA Personal Training Certification Program.
Meeting Lord James Steele II and UK Adventures
‎”Don’t work for my happiness, my brothers–show me yours–show me that it is possible–show me your achievement–and the knowledge will give me courage for mine.”
Disclaimer: James isn’t actually a lord, but I enjoy British culture and use it every chance I get, even if the words I am using are fully and completely out of place.
I also love the accents. Really, it’s like music to my ears, especially from women. English, Welsh, Irish, variations there of, etc.
~~~

Who is James Steele II?

He’s a young man living in Southampton England — almost the exact same age as me — a graduate student, an eternal friend of life, liberty, and reason, and the man who will finish what Arthur Jones started.

What Drew Baye is to high intensity training, Doug McGuff is to exercise science, Mark Sisson is to proper nutrition, and Bill DeSimone is to congruent bio-mechanics,

Drew Baye Super Charged [Video]

Drew Baye’s speeches at The 21 Convention are really good [link]. His interview in The Community Tapes is IMO, even better [link]. This video however, is I think, the best ever produced of him.

It hit me during the filming just how valuable it was. Essentially, this is a video of Drew putting me through a full ‘Big 4 + Neck” workout in the spirit of Body by Science, explaining everything in superb detail for me, and you the viewer.

You then of course get to actually see me go through the workout, which was intense, to say the least (Drew is an outstanding trainer).

In short, it is a hybrid between a knowledge packed seminar style presentation, and an actual workout video, filmed in tandem with the information presented. It’s really cool and I have never seen it elsewhere to this degree and in this much detail.

Drew and I also make some important announcements at the end of this video (about the last 3 minutes if you want to skip…

Four Hour Body Mini Review

This is titled a “mini review” since it is (A) not a full review, and (B) my thoughts on the book as the content applies to me and me only.

First things first, I have enjoyed the book very much. Tim is the ultimate geek for the human body, and this monster of a book proves it.

Second, I found the following chapters and ideas most useful. The rest I either didn’t care about, or simply disagreed with [disclaimer for those who haven't bought it yet: Tim knew many of his readers would be in the same boat before publishing the book, so far as I am aware].

  • Ice Age: Mastering Temperature to Manipulate Weight
  • Six-Minute Abs: Two Exercises That Actually Work
    • Note: I do not perform direct work for my abs, nor will I start doing any. I like this chapter because Drew is in it and I think Drew is awesome. I also have a monopoly on Drew Baye Youtube…

The Champions of Exercise & Nutrition: Doug McGuff MD, Mark Sisson

In this 20 minute excerpt Doug discusses…

  • Eating frequency
  • Tweaking intensity
  • Mechanical sticking points
  • Applying BBS to sport conditioning
  • The folklore of sport coaches (ending is hilarious)
  • Initiating BBS training for a new sport (such as MMA)
  • Muscular vs metabolic de-compensation
  • Intensity of play vs proper training
  • Life longevity of our ancestors

and much more.

The full speech is ~90 minutes in length. See Mark Sisson’s ~20 minute preview here, exclusive to The21Convention.com, and Drew Baye’s 2010 preview here.

Exercise in the 21st Century

This is the video of a workout I performed yesterday in Austin Texas at Efficient Exercise under the supervision of Skyler Tanner. The workout consisted of

  • 3 “Hyper Reps” for the lower back (that means maximum positive and maximum negative effort)
  • 3 “Double Negatives” on a horizontal plane (equivalent to a back to back chest press/seated row)
  • 3 “Double Negatives” on a vertical plane (equivalent to a back to back pull down/overhead press)

I did not do anything direct for my legs this workout since Keith Norris put me through the most intense leg workout of my life on Monday (which included, as a finishing touch, 3 leg press “hyper reps” on an older, horizontal plane CZT machine).

That leg workout alone left me sprawled out on the floor for a solid 30 minutes – something that’s never happened to me before my entire life. It has also left my legs “tender”,…

16 Pounds of Muscle in 16 Months

From Florida to Sweden, doing the mind numbingly simple exercises you see above – about once a week (or less) – I built ~16 pounds of muscle in ~16 months time.

I did it with less dietary carbohydrate per week than most people eat in a single day, and more saturated fat per day, than some eat in an entire month.

In other words, I stimulated and allowed for the growth of ~16 pounds of new muscle, in direct opposition to the prevailing conventional wisdom.

99% of “personal trainers”, “body builders”, “nutritionists”, and “dieticians” would tell you what I have done is impossible, and quickly dismiss it as a lie, or superior genetics (labeling me an anomaly instead of the norm).

Indeed, quite the opposite is true.

  • What I have accomplished is very possible for the average joe.
  • I would sooner stab myself than lie.
  • I grew up a fat kid. While some parts of my…
