The Avengers of Exercise

21 Studios presents The Avengers of Exercise: Age of Reason, now playing in your home and mobile device theater!

Okay so to be honest, I’m more of a Captain America: The Winter Solider fan myself, but I couldn’t resist the play on the title of the latest Avengers movie.

As it turns out, the reality isn’t so far from the title of this post. Skyler does an excellent job guest hosting this special, live podcast filmed at The 21 Convention 2014 of Tampa Florida with fitness geniuses Doug McGuff M.D. and Bill DeSimone.

I say fitness geniuses to present a strong contrast against “fitness celebrities” that pollute the internet, YouTube, and book stores, peddling their endless stream of nonsensical catch phrases, dubious logic, and wishful thinking.

These people are fixated on finding, repackaging, and selling your own bad ideas back to you in the most politically correct, anti-inflammatory way possible. The programs and products are useless, insanely overpriced, and rationalized under a thin veneer of “helping you”. This is like paying for the privilege of eating your own bull shit.

Doug, Bill, and Skyler are heroic truth seekers in a field overrun with frauds, charlatans, and borderline con artists – and seeing them together in an hour long+ video, for what I believe is the first time ever, is even cooler than I hoped it would be.

Enjoy the show. Links above for the website and YouTube edition. You can also get it on iTunes (low quality 720p) and 21 University (ad-free/max 1080p quality).

Oh, and don’t forget to grab your lifetime ticket to The 21 Convention. Page recently updated.

    Great stuff here.

I’m at a point where i’m definately aware of my form. While i’ve played around a bit with loosening form I just don’t feel this a wise thing to do. I’m quite careful with exercise selection. I avoid overly stretched positions. I avoid exercises that are too difficult to get in and out of position.

I workout with a somewhat high level of effort. I’m not obsessed with ultra intensity though either. I don’t leave a workout feeling drained.

I still have to watch myself with getting carried away with load sometimes. Although intellectually I know better.

The point of muscular failure is still one of those things I think about. There are some many points in set that one could say they’re “at failure”.

Anthony, do you know what happened to Dr. McGuff’s website? It seems to have been taken down.

I was wondering myself. My guess is he kept not updating the WordPress core or plugins and it was continually infected by malware. I’ll shoot him a text.

Thanks. I’m very appreciative of what he made available for us, for free. But, I assume it was a hassle to maintain, and that he has a lot of other things (i.e., his ER work, and outside business) to sap his available time.
