How many bullets have you dodged eating and living properly?

A close friend recently went under the knife. To what? To have their gallbladder removed. My non-medical recommendation of course was to avoid surgery for at least a month while eating nothing but real, awesome food.

Her trainer, none other than the legendary Drew Baye, was of the same/similar opinion (from my understanding, have not spoken to Drew about it).

Her doctor of course said he, and “everyone else”, “had no idea” what caused her gallbladder to completely cease functioning.

Which is naturally, complete bull shit.

I’m a 23 year old college drop out that failed biology as a freshman and I know exactly what caused her gallbladder to “break” – eating a shit load of wheat, corn, soybean, and rapeseed oil her entire life.

Among other strange substances posing as food for the bulk of her diet.

25+ years of this and it’s a wonder her gallbladder lasted as long as it did. It also leaves one to wonder what future ailments await my friend. Most likely, obesity, cancer, heart disease, diabetes, further gut related disorders, etc.

Not to mention a very likely slow and painful death from one of these diseases. Nothing like being killed from the inside. Yay.


Anyway, I mention this for two reasons.

One, it was a vivid reminder how strongly most people sleep walk through life. Reminder because I was reminded how “undeniably” nuts anyone sounds saying that a proper diet and lifestyle can fix 99/100 health problems — including the really “serious” ones that only your doctor and his buddies admit they DON’T UNDERSTAND, yet somehow know how to treat effectively (wtf?).

You literally sound like a voo-doo/mystical/insane witch doctor even suggesting that eating certain foods and eliminating a very large part of your current diet will fix things your doctor wants to CUT YOU OPEN for or SHOVE PILLS DOWN YOUR THROAT to “fix”.

“Fix” only so long as you keep taking the pills.

Some fix. Sounds like a cartoon branded band-aid over a shotgun wound to the face.

Two, I am reminded by this surgery just how many zillions of bullets I am dodging by eating properly (and a few other things). Really. Who removes bread from their diet at 20 years old thinking about the joys of keeping their gallbladder?

Of staying lean the rest of their life with relative ease?

Of getting sick 10 times instead of 150 times over the next 20 years?

Of virtually never having to see a doctor except for traumatic injury?

I sure didn’t. And at 23, the last thing on my mind are the doctor visits I am going to miss that 99% of the population won’t for shit that is completely, totally, and ridiculously unnecessary.

While diet, sleep, Vitamin D, and intense and rare workouts won’t prevent every ailment that comes your way, I wonder now what the chance is that I will go the rest of my life without ever actually needing to see a doctor, specifically because of those actions taken.


In conclusion, most medical doctors are fucking clueless when it comes to the reasons you got sick in the first place and what can be done on your own to fix those ailments.

  • Blood pressure high?
  • Cholesterol “high”?
  • Gallbladder stop working?
  • Heartburn?
  • Diabetes?
  • Acne?
  • Chron’s disease?
  • Explosive diarrhea?

Yeah, it’s tragic to say, but your doctor probably doesn’t have the first fucking clue as to why these things are as such, what the measurements mean, or what should be done about them first and foremost, and this is only a tiny, tiny list.

Furthermore, telling someone under the influence a status quo MD that subject MD is a “fucking idiot” makes you look like a morally subjective/high out of his mind hippy from the 60s.

The reality is though, you are probably right. (Such doctor may not be a “fucking idiot” however, and is more likely ignorant of the facts, or a moral coward, unwilling to challenge 20 years of his own bad advice that was probably detrimental to a lot of people’s health and well being).

Keep your bread, corn, and soy world – I’ll keep ALL of my organs and robust health.

    Love the Matrix reference, btw, my all time favourite movies(yes I liked all three).

    I can name a few bullets I’ve dodged, the biggie being that like most Paleo eaters and people who take tons of D a day, I never get sick any more. I don’t have colds, and every time I feel something coming on I’ve usually fought it off by the next day.

    I know I’ve dodged being type II diabetic, since a lot of people I know are headed there or on the path, especially my father who is on the knives edge of diabetes control right now, so I’m really watching out for it.

    I’ve dodged tons of obesity related health issues, since in the past two years I lost 30 pounds and cut my BF% from nearly 30% to 14%.

    The other thing I have noticed is that even though I stopped training HIT-style, my recovery is phenomenal. I’ve even gone through periods of working out hard, twice a day, and still waking up fresh the next morning and beating performance set points, which I have to give a large part of the credit to my nutrition at the time(raw milk and grass fed buffalo burgers)

    I’m also pretty sure that when I stopped using shampoo it made my hair shiny and soft rather than always brittle and dry, which is the most important point of all really;-)

      I enjoyed all three movies as well. I never actually understood why people hated Reloaded so much. It was my favorite of all three.

        I agree, I thought ‘Reloaded’ was by far the best movie philosophically and visually, the highway chase scene in particular being the highlight of the trilogy.

    And I’d also say this is in sharp contrast to a lot of people I see who should be a lot healthier than me, but aren’t. It’s something you touched on in your article about giving blood, but the average person is just so fucking weak these days.

    Sometimes I try to train friends or people I know and they will feel discomfort just *setting* up for a damn lift, or whine their way through basic warm up sets.

    I’ve also noticed a severe lack of just plain physical strength, something I’m sure you have seen when you look around at what other people are doing when you go to the gym, it’s pathetic what guys who must have 30-50 pounds on me are lifting(with shitty form no less)

    Yo Dream,

    Great post man. It sparked an idea that I think would make an even greater post for you.

    In regards to lifestyle, could you point out and point to some solutions/what you are doing in regards to many of the things you would deem not “living properly” as well as cool things you have found such as that tooth brush method.

    I’ll clarify with some examples: Only washing face with water, getting rid of shampoo(huge thing for me haha I wan’t more of these big revelations of shit I wasn’t doing optimally, potentially soap usage(like which to avoid cus i feel like my soap worsens/contributes to my back acne)

    My headspace in this seems to be more on the health related lifestyle choices, which I am sure there a large number of mistakes you can quickly point out. Wealth/Relationship areas could be done, but I am not sure if one post would best be able to give some sufficient solutions. I know for sure you have done this specifically in the area of romantic love which I thought was great, but I am mainly getting at all the little “living properly” specifics I might be missing.

    If a man who spent 7 years studying this topic and treating hundreds of patients after that doesn’t know what caused your friend’s liver to “break” than what makes you think that a college dropout can actually KNOW EXACTLY what her problem is.

    There is the fact that doctors are also human beings and that means that they don’t have all the answers and yes they do make mistakes but they did actually invest their time studying and treating people.

    Also I gotta give you props with actually having an idea of what the problem could be but what proof do you have of your knowledge, what is the source?

    Obviously you learned what you know from somewhere and have (hopefully) experienced and saw the results of eating healthy.
    I want to know where did you learn what you know and on what grounds do you assume that what you know is true? (don’t just tell me of your experience since it’s only exclusive to you)
